Abstract
This study was carried out to investigative the protective effect of chitosan oligomer on lipid peroxidation and key lipid parameter in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat. accutely exposured to 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzop- dioxin (TCDD). Male SD rats received single interaperitoneal (ip) injection of TCDD (40 ug/kg.b.w), and were given diet containing 1 or 3% chitosan oligomer for 4wks from 1wk before TCDD treatment. Serum (total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-C, and LDL-C) and liver lipid parameter (total lipid, cholesterol and triglyceride) were significantly elevated in TCDD-induced rats, but these parameter excluding HDL-C were significantly reduced in high dietary in take of chitosan oligomer(3% chitosan). Conclusively, the mechanisms of chitosan oligomer to improve lipid metabolism in TCDD treated rats seemed that chitosan oligomer could decrease the serum and liver cholesterol by accelerating the excretions of lipid and bile acid. This findings suggest that chitosan oligomer is belived to be a possible protective effect against 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) in rats.
